Excessive lead levels in the human body can pose health hazards and even cause neurological, hematopoietic, reproductive development, endocrine, and immune problems. The recent incidents of lead in faucets have also prompted the National Standardization Administration to revise the national standard GB 18145-2003 for faucets, which was implemented on January 1, 2004. The new national standard will be aligned with the American standard NSF/ANSI 61 for lead precipitation testing methods and limit requirements for faucets, which means that the weighted lead content in drinking water pipelines and equipment in contact with drinking water in various states of the United States cannot exceed 0.25%.
